Mission
We, the Tamil Apostolate of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit commit ourselves to building a Christ-centered Tamil speaking community by:
* renewing family and community life by journeying together,
* strengthening the bonds of relationships with one another,
* living out the word of god and the eucharist as the center of our faith,
* and we need your support for our continuous growth.

Aims & Objectives
The aims and objectives of the Tamil Apostolate shall be as follows: –

  1. to identify, plan and implement pastoral and missionary programs consistent with the needs of the Tamil speaking parishioners of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit and any other programs and / or policies of benefit to the Tamil speaking parishioners of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit as whole.
  2. to evaluate from time to time the effectiveness of the current programs and/or policies of the Tamil Apostolate with a view to improve, substitute or terminate the same.
  3. to keep the parishioners of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit of Indian origin informed of the affairs activities and programs of the Tamil Apostolate and the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in general.
  4. to organise social gatherings for the purpose of celebrating important catholic religious and/or Indian cultural festivals.
  5. to organise and carry out social and/or welfare activities in the spirit of the context of a caring society.
  6. to raise funds for the purpose of implementing the aims and objectives herein.
  7. to do all such other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the objects and the exercise of the powers by the Tamil Apostolate.

The Groups

For the implementation and better carrying out of the aims and objectives of the Tamil Apostolate, the Tamil Apostolate committee may establish the following groups: –

  1. Charismatic Prayer Group
  2. Liturgical Group
  3. Ladies’ Group
  4. Social and Welfare Affairs Group

The Scope of The Activities Of The Groups
The scope of the activities of the groups shall be as defined from time to time by the Tamil Apostolate committee. Such activities shall be carried out in accordance with the guidelines provided from time to time by the Tamil Apostolate committee.
Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing provisions the main duties functions and activities of the groups shall be as described in the following provisions of this article.

  • Charismatic Prayer Group
    1. to do praise and worship
    2. to guide the members of the Tamil speaking parishioners in faith renewal and exercising the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit.
    3. organising Life In The Spirit Seminars and seminars in basic Christian maturity.
    4. inviting guest speakers to give spiritual talks
    5. to submit to the leadership of the parish priest, Tamil co ordinating team (TCT) and the Penang Diocesan Service Team (PDST).
    6. to extend cooperation and support for the activities of the Tamil Apostolate and the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in general.
    7. such other functions and/or duties as may be assigned to it from time to time by the Tamil Apostolate committee.
  • Liturgical Group
    1. to make the necessary preparations for the holding of the Tamil mass according to the liturgical calendar and festive occasions and in particular: –
      • to prepare the commentary for the Tamil mass
      • to arrange for lectors for the mass
      • to arrange for commentator
      • to recruit members for the choir and arrange for practices
      • to arrange organist for mass
      • to arrange for altar servers and hospitality ministers for mass
    1. the coordinator thereof to represent the Tamil Apostolate in the parish liturgical team.
    2. to extend cooperation and support for the activities of the Tamil Apostolate and the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in general
    3. such other functions and/or feast day duties as may be assigned to it from time to time by the Tamil Apostolate
  • Ladies Group
    1. to organise gatherings and fellowship among the female members of the Tamil Apostolate in order to foster good relations, friendship and cooperation among them.
    2. to share and exchange ideas with regard to the faith and to thereby grow in the faith.
    3. to share and exchange ideas with regard to subjects like good parenting, housekeeping, sewing, cooking and the like subjects.
    4. to organise any other activity of benefit for the female members of the Tamil Apostolate.
    5. to extend cooperation and support for the activities of the Tamil Apostolate and the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in general.
  • Social and Welfare Affairs Group
    1. to organise and carry out social and/or welfare activities to project the Tamil Apostolate as a caring organisation in the spirit of the context of a caring society.
    2. to organise the annual dinner of the Tamil Apostolate and all other social activities of the Tamil Apostolate.

Other activities such as: –

  • Tamil Mass every 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month at the Chapel at 5.30pm
  • Tamil Catholic Charismatic Renewal Prayer Meetings every Wednesday at the Ground Floor classroom at 8.00pm followed by fellowship
  • Tamil classes every Thursday at 8.00pm and Tamil computer classes at 9.00pm
