Brothers and sisters in the blessed Lord,
The Feast of Assumption, the Solemnity of the Assumption of our blessed Mother is a glorious day. A day of joy as Mary is taken up, body and soul, to heaven.
And by this very act of God, now you and I have a human mother, a divine mother in heaven, the mother of our very Lord Jesus Christ.
My dear friends, speaking of Mary’s greatness, there is one beautiful story I wish to share with you.
One day, as Jesus Christ was making His daily rounds in heaven, daily patrol in heaven, He happened to bump with Adolf Hitler. As Jesus was making His rounds in heaven, He bumped into Adolf Hitler, the German dictator.
Jesus immediately asked Hitler,
“What are you doing here? You are not supposed to be in heaven. This is not your place. For all the things that you have done, remember Hitler, you killed 6 Million Jews? You are not supposed to be here.”
So Jesus was very unhappy, disappointed and immediately Jesus calls Saint Peter to investigate.
Saint Peter arrived at the scene and Jesus asked Saint Peter.
“Why did you allow Adolf Hitler, the killer, murderer, to enter heaven? Don’t you know he killed millions of people?” Jesus asked Saint Peter.
Saint Peter replied Jesus, “My Lord, my God, as a gatekeeper of heaven, I stopped him from entering heaven, the main door. I stopped him but your mother, Virgin Mary whom you assumed into heaven, opened a side door for him to enter.”
Brothers and sisters, all of us need a side door to enter heaven. Nobody here, including myself, can enter through the main door. All of us need the intercession of Mary to experience her son.
Brothers and sisters, Blessed Virgin Mary was assumed into heaven not to sit down, relax and unwind herself. Virgin Mary was assumed to heaven with a mission and her mission in heaven is to be our heavenly mother, interceding for each one of us here.
The Assumption of Mary, my dear friends, is a recent, the most latest dogma of the Catholic Church. The early church believed in Mary’s assumption, believed 2,000 years ago. However this dogma of Assumption was only made official in 1950. This dogma was made official by the Holy Church, by Pope Pious XII in 1950. Less than 100 years.
So dear friends, what can we learn from this dogma of Assumption?
This dogma, Assumption of Mary to heaven, reveals to you and to me, by God’s grace alone everything is possible. With God’s grace, everything is possible. Though all of us here are sinners in need of God’s grace, God chose Mary to be our greatest intercessor in heaven, pleading for each one of us on earth.
My dear friends, Mary’s assumption, body and soul, is very unique and special because as a human being in heaven, she can relate to our sufferings and struggle on earth. Mary never died. She was assumed to heaven. She is still a human. The only human who lives in heaven.
Blessed Virgin Mary is truly God’s divine gift for you and for me. She was faithful serving her Son. Now in heaven, she is faithful serving the entire human race.
So, as we celebrate the Assumption of Mary to heaven, let us pray for the grace like Mary, all of us, will be faithful, obedient serving the Living God.
And I leave you with this beautiful words written by Saint Maximilian Kolbe. Listen carefully, open your ears to what he says.
Saint Maximilian Kolbe says:
Never be afraid of loving Blessed Virgin Mary. Never be afraid to love Virgin Mary. You can never love her more than Jesus did. You can never love Mary more than Jesus loved Mary.
We pray for this grace during this Holy Mass.
