Prison Ministry

Prison Ministry of CHS  is part of Penang Diocesan Prison Ministry (PDPM) and under the umbrella of Caritas Outreach Cluster.

About Us

The Prison Ministry faith sharers from CHS visit the Penang Remand Prison, Jawi Prison and Sungai Petani Juvenile Prison every month.  Members of the PDPM take turns to visit the prisons every week.  Our mission is to share the faith and also to provide counselling and motivation to the prisoners.

By God’s Grace, the PDPM celebrated its 10th anniversary in June 2024 and we have seen lives transformed, kept prisoners’ faith alive and constantly assured Christ is with them.  Prisoners on death row at Jawi prison had their death sentence abolished and are now completing their sentence and will be released in a few years time.  During Christmas service and mass, they had their Sacrament of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.

Praise the Lord, the parishioners of the CHS had generously contributed to the Share-A-Meal donation campaign and the funds were used to provide fellowship meals to prisoners in the Diocese for Easter 2024 and Christmas 2024.  More than 700 Catholic and Christian prisoners enjoyed a special festive meal.  They were comforted that a lot of people cared and prayed for them and they were never alone.
